Children’s
Program Outline
The
Children’s Program offers a fun and
educational experience for children, aged 7 to 12 years. Arts and
crafts,
drama, story time and tours of the Museum will all serve to awaken an
interest
in local history and community.
* $2.00 per day
* Tuesdays – Wednesdays –
Thursdays - Fridays
* 10 am to 12 pm
* July 2 to August 22, 2008
* Activities will take place on the lawn
at the Museum. Rainy days we move inside
to the Boyd Gallery.
Please note: All classes are subject to change. Pre-registration is suggested. Activities will take place in the Boyd Gallery on rainy days. Activities in brackets are not yet confirmed.

Beadwork
Classes
On display this season is a collection of basket and beadwork on loan
from the Whetung Centre at Curve Lake. First nation handwork will
be
viewed and discussed prior to commencing classes. Sharon is the
Instructor. She knows her beads!
Music and Drama
Classes
Music and drama classes will be held weekly, with
instruction
provided by a local recording artist and a Instructor to be named.
Painting Lessons
Children will view and discuss paintings in the Museum and the Boyd
Gallery prior to commencing lessons. The Instructor is Ruth
Bellbeck, a
local professional artist with twenty years experience teaching
children.
Crocheting Lessons
Children will be shown handwork in the Museum and will participate in a
discussion of the origins of the craft prior to commencing
lessons. The Instructor is award winning artisan, Stacey Maitland.
Craft Days
General woodcrafts will be built during discussions of the Boyd Lumber
Company, the Trent Valley Navigation Company and the Trent-Severn
Waterway.
Rug Hooking
Children will learn the history of the craft from and be instructed by
the Boyd Museum Chair and Curator Barb McFadzen.
Rainy Day Movies
During inclement weather, children will view a variety of educational
and for entertainment movies in the Boyd Gallery.
Game Days
Children will participate in games originating from the turn of the
century. Current games will be enjoyed as they pertain to
artifacts from the
Museum collection.
Battle
Days
Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon battle days will take place
Fridays. Bring your cards and battle for superiority!
Special Guests
Special Guests will be providing demonstrations and information talks
to the children throughout the summer.
